With 5 weeks to go, today I did 6 x 1 mile @5:30 with 400 jog @ 7:30 pace (next week 200 jog under 7) Last rep was 5:23. Thursday 5 to 7 miles at 95% of 10k and Saturday probably the Aussie's with Steve in mind. Thank You for all your help Nate. I think Strength endurance is my weakness, so every other week I will do the hills. I'm waiting to see your last weeks training.dannynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2274438111706927359.post-46594465435679698062015-03-03T05:13:39.318-08:002015-03-03T05:13:39.318-08:00Danny- Being totally honest I don't remember w...Danny- Being totally honest I don't remember writing a 10k schedule for RT. Was it a blog or an article? Anyway I keep meaning to update the 10k training blog on this site so I'll try to do that this week for you.
IN terms of the workouts being long. I think for 10k focused work it is ideal that you be doing workouts of 9 to 12k of volume very regularly and occasionally more. Off 80 miles a week that seems quite reasonable. NOW Steve Moneghetti ran mid 27's, which is to say a good minute faster than I ever thought I have been in shape to run and 2mins faster than my road best, and he insisted that all his workouts should be 7k, about 4.5 miles or less INCLUDING the rest. So if workouts of 6 to 8 miles seem like a recipe for disaster for you, I know they would be for Melissa, then you can do shorter workouts just make sure they are workouts with fast recovery, like alternations, mona fartlek, aussie quarters and that you mix in a weekly 10 to 14 mile fundamental paced tempo run for aerobic strength. The fast rest workouts will give you the aerobic power.
-natenateruns@hotmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01851427962048556845noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2274438111706927359.post-20512688434974042812015-03-02T08:07:51.188-08:002015-03-02T08:07:51.188-08:00Thank you Nate. BR, Nietzsche and Emerson are my faves . Although I don't wish to Emulate the former's personal lives.

Quick question, I have almost decided to follow a 10k schedule (5 weeks till my race on 4/4) that you wrote for running times back in 2010. But I'm conflicted. You wrote a 10k XC specific program for after following a Canova base. Which I did, the base that is. The running times program looks very challenging, starting with 16x800 @10k. I'm about an 84 mile a week guy. Which one do you think? And as always I really do appreciate your help.dannynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2274438111706927359.post-30472805096176073042015-03-01T18:25:58.959-08:002015-03-01T18:25:58.959-08:00Danny- that is super nice but you may have just ou...Danny- that is super nice but you may have just out nerded me there and that is not an easy thing to do. I'm surprised how many suffer from this. I was told by the experts 'arthritis in s.i. joint' but I have a herniated disc as well. Looking forward to the posts!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
